Cantuccini are hard and crunchy twice-baked biscuits. In Croatia, they are also called pandoleti, but the original name and the recipe derives from cantuccini in Italy meaning a Latin word 'canto' of a slice of bread that the Roman soldiers consumed as part of their meal.
